Police

A van collided with a train at a railway crossing at the Bágyogszovát stop on Friday morning, the driver of the car died in the accident – the spokesman of the Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurt Railway (GYSEV) Ltd. operating the line told MTI.

László Rázó said that the vehicle was driven into the railway crossing despite the prohibited signal from the light and the barrier, where it collided with a train heading from Győr to Sopron. None of the passengers on the train were injured.

He added that as a result of the collision, the railway track was also damaged, which is why train traffic is expected to go back to normal only in the evening.

Until then, there will be replacement buses between Csorna and Kóny instead of passenger and InterCity trains.

According to a statement from the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, the train pushed the van about two hundred meters in front of it, which got stuck under the train and the train ran off the rails.
