According to the police, a cyclist was hit and killed at dawn on Monday, around 3 o’clock in Jánossomorja, Győr-Moson-Sopron County. The driver of the dark-colored, presumably Mercedes-type SUV drove off the scene of the accident without stopping. Not long after, around 5 o’clock in Mosonmagyaróvár, a cyclist was hit by an SUV of a similar color and type. The driver drove on in this case as well. The cyclist was taken to hospital. The two settlements are 16 minutes away by car.
On Monday at noon, the police arrested the driver in Mosonmagyaróvár: a 35-year-old Slovak man who was caught after data collection and analysis of surveillance cameras. A drug test was applied to the man, which became positive.
Criminal proceedings were instituted against the 35-year-old man at the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters on suspicion of causing a fatal traffic accident and failing to provide assistance.
